The first time I dissected a head, I had no flipping idea what I was doing. I left that session feeling low, thinking about the person who had kindly donated their head. I fumbled through straight cuts, pretending to know what I was looking at—just like the rest of the group.

To this day, I tell people: grabbing a head and making cuts isn’t the first thing you should do. First, you need to watch a true dissector and anatomist work meticulously, so you can get your bearings before picking up the scalpel. Human heads don’t give off the same feeling as dissecting a cat’s head in school—it’s different, and it hits different. That’s why it’s important for us to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable, confident, and supported in this intimate learning experience. And…
